Bio

Theresa Lucey is a twenty-seven year old fine artist working in Orlando, Florida. Her primary practice is the creation of original paintings in the genre of figurative realism. She is pursuing a career as a full-time painter and draftswoman. Possessing a disciplined eye and an understanding of anatomical complexity, Theresa recognizes the intellectual vigor of figurative art. She delves deeply into self portraiture in particular. Through the act of self portraiture she synthesis her interests in the performance of gender, dramatic physical expression and classical operatic works.

Representing the relationship between the material and unknown Theresa reveals the temporary nature of selfdom as a seldom talked about phenomenon, deserving of reflection and intercommunication. Her works bare society's evolving potentiality of gender, mirrored in individual understandings of self. The body houses so many variations of self, culminating in eventual nothingness. Theresa is cultivating a gender inclusive feminist voice based upon these observations. She indulges in obsessive introspection, and questions perceptions of the body tied to gender politics and mental health.

While she develops the financial reward of her studio practice Theresa teaches fundamental and anatomical drawing as an instructor of record. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Central Florida. She is expected to graduate in April of 2019.

Theresa was selected as a recipient of the University of Central Florida’s MFA Provost's Graduate Fellowship. She is an active local exhibitor, frequently showing at City Arts Factory, Avalon Gallery and several independent locations. She is determined to broaden her visibility and experience as a young, up and coming artist.
